A Letter from the Quirino Bloodbath Survivor
This flooded the net. Spreaded in various networking sites and was also forwarded to me via email. If indeed this came from one of the survivors of the Quirion Hostage Bloodbath, this is the other side of the story aside from the ones we have seen, heard or read in TV, Radio and Print.
-----
Mr. Mendoza was already upset even before he saw on television what the policemen did to his brother. The other tourists who remained inside the bus were complaining. Wei Ji Jiang wanted to go to the bathroom. Dao Chi Yu was hungry and the rest were just groaning and whining like they have forgotten that our lives rest in Mr. Mendoza's hands. The hostage taker, as you know him was really nice. He treated us okay and even let the elders and the children leave the bus. He said your policemen treated him unfairly. He was a policeman too and was accused of doing something he had no knowledge of. But your government didn't listen so he used us to get everyone's attention. Things would have never turned for the worst if he didn't see how his family was dragged out of their house and taken into custody. He was watching the news all the time as we huddled around each other behind the bus. He shouted some words in your language then started shooting in the air. A girl about my age started screaming. Mr. Mendoza demanded her to stop but she didn't understand English. God, he had to slash her neck with a knife just to put her to rest. Her boyfriend who tried to hit him was shot in the head. Tension was rising. You can see in his face how scared and confused he was. The bus driver ran away leaving him alone with strangers from a distant land. I can see him walking across the aisle, sometimes pointing his machine gun to one of the tourists. But he tried his best not to hurt us, especially those who really cooperate. I guess its in your nature not to inflict pain on others unless it was necessary. I remember him saying that he will free us before sundown and implored us to forget everything when we return home. But his words don't matter now. The policemen were trying to force their way in, while we all lied down to shield ourselves from bullets. Mister Mendoza blindly shoots at his enemies which I think kept them from rescuing us. I hear sobs under the chairs. Some were even shouting the names of their loved ones even when the air merely eat their words. Kevin Tang tried to escape when the glass door was shattered, but one shot and he slumped on the floor with blood gushing from his mouth. Heavy rain pitter-pattered on the rooftop. In old Chinese saying, it means an end to a struggle. Finally, somebody was able to open the escape hatch at the back of the bus. Freedom. But I knew Mister Mendoza was still alive. I knew he was just waiting for a chance to strike back at his enemies. So I told those around me not to escape. Let the authorities come for us instead. Then there was gunfire. He was firing at his enemies with a machine gun. Those who were at the escape hatch fled abandoning us once again. It's like a nightmare with no end and to wake up means a certain death. Then somebody from outside the bus threw a canister. It forced out a black smoke that is so painful to the eyes and putrid smelling to the nose. People started screaming. We cannot breathe. Some ran in front of the us but Mister Mendoza warned them of stray bullets. It was too late. One was hit on the head, the other was hit on the shoulders. Bullets were now flying. Its like the authorities thought we were all dead. Mister Mendoza finally admits his mistake and said sorry to everyone, dead or alive. He then ran towards the front of the bus where he would meet his maker. As he passed by my chair with bullets whistling overhead, I clutched my hand on the velvet curtain and wrapped it around my face. All I could think of was to stay alive - for my child who is waiting for me back in Xinjang
I know I will survive, I will come home.

Ms. Universe MAJOR MAJOR moment
It was a good start for Ms. Philippines Venus Raj, one of the crowd favorite and a top contender to snatch the Ms. Universe 2010 crown. From 83 candidates, down to top 15, to top 10 and top 5 candidates all hoping to wear the crown of Miss Universe for a year. Nevertheless she fought a good fight for the title.
Eventhough she only got the 4th runner up place, still it was a major achievement for our country after the bloody incident at the Quriino Grandstand yesterday. To think that it has been 11 years ago since our country won or were in the top contenders for having the Miss Universe Crown. Of course many would criticize Venus Raj on how did she answer the question from William Baldwin and i qoute "in your life, what was the biggest mistake that you have done and how did you correct it" (not verbatim). Hey give the lady a break, its nerve wracking up there! At least she still has the grace not to buckle or anything. right? Just look at the bright side of it. :)
Congratulations to VENUS RAJ!

Quirino Grandstand Hostage Drama
This hostage taking drama could have ended in a nicer tone, but unfornately it endeed in bloodshed. Hostage taker Rolando Mendoza and about least 7 Chinese nationals died tragically at the Quirino Grandstand shortly after SWAT team assaulted the bus to take down Mendoza.
Hostage drama started at around 10am (August 23, 2010) with Mendoza's demand for him to be reinstated at his post and to have all the charges against him dismissed. He was dismissed from his post as the chief of Manila Police Mobile patrol unit in 2008 after he was accused and charged of robbery with extortion.
Shortlyy after Mendoza announced the hostage of the Chinese national within the tourist bus, negotiators positioned themselves within the area that resulted for the release of some hostages. Negotiation was going well, however it changed rapidly as he was given the letter from the Ombudsman promising to review the case personally and with the presence of his brother being taken away while media coverage is on full gear added to the tension that led for Mendoza to kill a hostage. During the time when the brother was taken into custody, gun fires were shot. As the time passed by, at around 7:30pm, the bus driver was able to escape and with his story that the hostages were being harmed, SWAT was forced to assault the bus and the tragic ending happened.
As a result HK officials issued a travel ban to the Philippines.
This is a sad day for the Philippines. I do hope that we would learn from this tragic incident.
As a citizen of this country this is my take on the situation:
1. Policemen could have handled it better than what they did. At the start of the hostage drama, hostage taker Rolando Mendoza was cooperative enough to let go of its Chinese national hostages as long as his demands were satisfied.
2. There should have been a media black-out to this incident. On going live media coverage aggitated the hostage taker to do nasty things with his hostages
3. People who are not trained with hostage taking incidents should back off and let the experts do their job.
What the policemen needs is an intensive training to handle this kind of situations. Hopefully we can still improve and learn from this experience

D'AUDITORS OF PHIL.CHARITY FOUNDATION SCAM
I forgot all about this message. Just came across to it just right now while I was cleaning up my inbox messages.
It was August 17, 2010 at around 8:20pm, I was on my way to work when I received this message from a non-registered phone number saying that I won the second prize worth P950,00 thru they're draw last August 17, 2010. Knew from the start that this was a scam because of several reasons. First, I did not recall any raffle draw that I joined in recently, second there was no DTI#, third is that PCF does not exist, and lastly IM NOT THAT STUPID to buy the information! duh! That is why I did not bother to answer the message afterall.
I googled the Philippine Charity Foundation and found out some blogs about this scam that has been around since 2008.
Here are some of the published stories:
latest text scam the philippine charity foundation pcf text scam
ABS-CBN News Text Scam Warning
and if you google "Philippine Charity Foundation" you will have about 697,000 hits with different stories about the scam
So for everyone's protection, I, too blogged about this.
Hey, I even took photos of the actual text message:

One phone call and I was out of the house (again)
My lawyer/friend called and asked me if I can meet him rightway (as in now na); if I can make it less than 10mins to where he was at taking his morning coffee. May hearing pala siya sa Makati Trial Court so, we barely have about 20-30mins tops to chat about my case and other things.
Pag dating ko dun sa Jollibee Reposo. Of course big smile, haven't seen him for the longest time. I can say na naging close friends na din naman kami. So super at ease ako sa kanya, that I can easily say to him kung panget siya that day or what! hehehe...Sa "catch up" session namin, parang 5mins lang dun ang discussion namin about my case and the rest was other things, ganun ata talaga kami mag usap. A little time to discuss about the case pero nagkaintindihan na kami then the rest is about everything else! hehe... May tiwala ata siya sa akin yun kaya he usually is asking my opinion about some cases. Kaya sabi ko nga sa kanya I can be a lawyer or be his personal secretary! hahaha..mukhang payag naman siya...
At ang sosyal pa niya. Ako na injured, hinatid ko pa siya sa Makati Trial Court. hehe. Gusto ko din kasi masilip ako itsura ng courtroom sa Makati. Panget kasi nun sa Manila. hehe.
So ayun. good all 30mins of chat > 5mins for the real issue and the rest were just plain catching up!

Iko's Birthday
Sunday. August 15.
Buds and I were scheduled to meet for an afternoon catch-up. However, middle of the day, he called me to inform me that we had a change of plans, meet na lang daw kami an hour after sa Victory Liner España, Manila together with other friends. So I called him up to check up on him and to ask him kung aware siya. True enough! He has no idea na sa Pampanga ang party na sinasabi niya! hahaha! So ok na din. Bonding moments pa din yun with some of our friends way back in college.
After an hour and a half na biyahe, medyo na-lost pa kami ng onti, nakarating din kami sa bahay nila jey. Chika-Chika. Kulitan. Picture galore. Nakakatawa ang anak nila, kung anong ikina outgoing na tao ng nanay, siya naman sobrang mahiyain at ayaw sa atensyon ng anak niya.

Popoy and Basha Moment
Sounds familiar, right? Character names from Star Cinema's One More Chance 2007 Movie. Had a similar sitch but not entirely. Well, I mean, sometimes I do hope to have that one more chance to make things right and to make it better this time. However, as we all know, past is past, no one can bring it back.
So, moving forward. Last Friday (August 13) I went to my friend's office for a visit since it was also his birthday celebration. As promised, I visited them because they've been ranting that its been a long time since we last saw each other. True enough, its been a year, almost a year, since I last saw them. I happened to distance myself from them because their friend was my ex-boyfriend. And sad to say, I've been nursing that brokenheart moments for the longest time.
At first, I felt awkward, but my ex-bf kind of welcomed me first. So I felt more settled. Since I wasn't able to stay long as long as I've wanted too, I just made it to a point to catch up with them. How things are. How was my godchild doing. Things like that. And my friends keep on chatting that maybe my ex and I can rekindle the old flame afterall. Both of us were just laughing about it. But for me, underneath it all, was the memory rushing back in of out almost 3years relationship.
After the "meeting" I had somehow some realizations. One, I still feel something for him, but that department was kind of vague. Second, I was complacent with the flow of our relationship and one of my colleague pointed that out. Third is that I'm still longing for that one more chance. Not that I am wishing to turn back time but what I am wishing for is another chance to continue what we had. However I know, it was a long shot.
During the entire shift of my work, the only music that resonated my ears were two song on loop! Smile by Tamia and From a Distance by Elliot Yamin. I was so absorbed by the lyrics of those songs. That it somehow spoke the unspoken within me.
Those were my shoulda, woulda, coulda moments.

dear YOU ... love ME
Was surfing facebook via yahoo the other day and I saw a post on my friend's wall that really caught my attention. It was an article published at the Philippine Daily Inquirer last August 8, 2010. The author's daughter wrote the letter that was published in the daughter's website, titled "the man I will love someday" And after reading the "letter" it hit me. It gave me a new perspective on what to expect for in a relationship. Of course we all know and its been said over and over again that LOVE is not a full bed of rose petals, it has its thorns once in a while.
here are some of the portions of the letter:
I will admit that sometimes I really do wonder if you exist.
There is a part of every little girl’s heart that envisions her prince charming
I may already know you or may still meet you someday—something I leave completely up to God because I’m pretty sure our story will be epic.
So to the man I know does exist, and who will help me maybe make sense of the world someday, this man I can’t wait to love. Please know that I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with you. But for now, I wait. Fingers crossed and palms held together, I hope that you’re out there somewhere, waiting for me, too.

Wedding Bliss at the Crowne Plaza
August 7-8, 2010. Wedding Bliss at the Crowne Plaza Galleria Manila
My friend and I checked out the event last Saturday after our AA meeting at the Shangri-La Mall to look out for new suppliers collect flyers and all. Marian and Richard followed us at the event since they didn't liked the movie line-up.
EXPECTATIONS:
> to be a jampacked event, since bridal fairs are in thing
> have lots of suppliers' booth around
> have lots of activities going on, since they also set up a fashion show and some talks about preparing for a wedding
REAL THING:
> only few people were present at the event
> only few suppliers were present as well, you can count them with you fingers per category
> it was a boring event. speakers are not that competent to speak in front of a crowd. reading from a powerpoint presentation, duh! what a lame
After a gruelling and boring hour, we all decided to leave the event. Too bad it was not that fruitful.

Artistang Artlet's Meeting
Saturday. August 2, 2010. 2pm, Cravings Shangri-la Mall.
We held our monthly meeting for our theater organization's 30th anniversary celebration. But that was not really a "meeting" per se it was more like "kwentuhan" hahaha...well that was always the case, its 70% kwentuhan and 30% the real reason why we meet, however before we part ways it was a sure fire that we came up with something fruitful.
As per the meeting. The group decided that the tree planting activity will be moved to October instead of August due to the forecasted storms for this month. Homecoming Party will push thru at the last weekend of September. We just need to find a suitable place for the event expecting 100 guests to arrive on that night. As per the 30th Anniversary Presentation Play, we are yet to decide which script to use and who will direct the whole show. Next meeting was set sometime September. As of the moment we were tasked to look for a suitable place within QC and Ortigas for the event.
Yan!
So after the meeting, we went on our seperate ways na. Chickie and I went to a bridal fair at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Richard and Marian checked the cinemas, Millet and Maan went home :)

Scholarship in Italy
A friend told me about the scholarship program she found out via facebook.com She even sent me the link so that I can read more about it.
Its a competition for creating a marketing plan in selling your favorite destination to your target market. On how to entice them in visiting the place you love. Sound easy...
It is worth all the effort. In return the winning plan will have a full scholarship in Italy for the two-year Master of Arts Degree in Communication Design Course. The scholarship will be confirmed for the second year if the student will comply with specific academic requirements.
Not bad at all.
Why not give it a shot!

Circle of Love-Life
I read this in my friend's Facebook account and she shouts:
"The best way to be around with your ex with whom you still cannot get over with, is to be friends with his close friends and even relatives because that way you'd never be out of the circulation"
This made me think.
Sitwasyon ko yan! hahaha. But not really. May pros and cons ito. Its not that I still cannot get over him, its just that he still has a place in my heart (wheez, so cheezy!). And he will always have that. Feeling ko nga naka-life time lease na siya dun eh. HAHAHA.
It just dawned me, every now and then I still do remember "our times" together. Just like when I was in Boracay, about a month ago. Was at the beach, langoy-langoy lang, then all of a sudden naging siya ang topic namin ng friend ko. waaah! Naalala ko tuloy yun beach bum namin sa Subic. Hay! Tapos ngayon, August na. Birthday ng dalawa sa closest friends namin. At dapat anniversary month namin. Kung nagkataon sana we are on our fourth year sana...kaso hindi eh, nahinto kami sa pag bibilang nung 6months after our second year together. Oh well, those were the sad times of my lovelife. I cried, yes! Who wouldn't? We all had our expectations. I had my expectations. At hindi ko yun napaghandaan.
Moving on, more than a year na din naman kami wala. Friends kept on asking "may boyfriend ka na?" then blurting out "bakit wala?...siya din wala pa din GF since nag break kayo...(laughs)...kayo na lang kasi ulit eh!" Hay! kung ganun lang din sana kadali.
Who knows... I'm not closing anything. Malay mo naman. Anything is possible. Be it him or be it another man. All I can wish for is happines, for the two of us.

First Time in History
It circulated the news even in networking site (facebook).
PNoy shows off his first paycheck as the President of the Republic of the Philippines. This is his salary for the month of July amounting to Php63,000.17, net income following the mandatory salary deductions. The Chief Executive gets a 35% pay cut from his monthly salary. This paycheck was released last August 2.
Very candid and transparent of him to show it off. Big round of applause for the President!

Ministop Management's Reply
ast Monday, August 2, 2010, I received an email from the Quality Assurance Officer of Ministop regarding the complaint I emailed them about the rude staff from one of their stores. Apparently that store was a franchised owned, but nevertheless, it still carry the flagship name of MINISTOP as a convenient store.
Was so happy that they looked into the matter I complaint about. I know it was a small incident but they should still uphold their vision and mission to have a friendly-customer service.
here is the reply from the Quality Assurance Officer of Ministop:
Dear Madam,
Good Day!
We already received your complaint early this morning, in behalf of the store The Quality Assurance Department of Ministop we're asking apology with what happen the last time you visit the store. Ministop MJL is a Franchise Owned Store but this doesn't mean that they will be different when it comes to Customer service, we have the same Mission and Vision so incident like this should not happen.
Quality Assurance Department called up the said store regarding your concern. Mrs. Encarnacion Santos, Store Owner of Ministop MJL will call the attention of the store personnel mentioned and will e-mail back to you as soon as possible...
We're looking forward to doing business with you again...
Thank you very much for the feedback.

Ngaragan Nga!
Hindi nga ako nagkamali...
Saturday was a very tiring day indeed, a "ngarag" day, for me and my friend. Then I dragged another friend (para may karamay kaming dalawa! hehe)
For starters, I thought I was in good shape. But NO! I suddenly felt strange. Then all I know eh nag susuka na ako ng bongga (sorry po!). Ayun nga, I don't know why ako bigla nagkaganon, eh ang ayos ayos naman ng pakiramdam ko a few hours before that. And since its a long time scheduled activity, I pushed through. Kala ko ok na ako, so umalis na ako. Sakay jeep papuntang Taft Avenue, pero kailangan kong bumaba ng jeep in the middle of the ride, kasi I can feel it rising up again! At hindi nga ako nagkamali..sorry ulit...sumuka ulit ako. At this time, pinagpapawisan na ako ng malamig. After a few minutes, medyo ok na ulit ako. Sakay ulit jeep. But then again. naulit pa ulit. This time, hindi na ako bumaba ng jeep...sorry kay manong driver, dun na ako sumuka, eww talaga yun pakiramdam ko. Pagdating ko sa Taft, I stopped by at a convinient store, bought some tissue and banana. Napanood ko kasi na kapag feeling nahihilo ka at feeling matutumba any moment, eat banana to replace the lost potassium in your body. Pag dating ko McDonald's andun na yun kasama ko, I ordered breakfast, didn't ate the burger first, nagkape muna ako at saging lang. From that point, bumuti na talaga pakiramdam ko.
DIVISORIA! Here we come!
Another jeepney ride from Taft to Divisoria. We met my friend at the Bonifacio Statue, outside Tutuban Mall. We first went to the Clustered Mall. Dun kami nag simula mag tingin-tingin ng mananahi ng wedding gowns. At sa aming paghahanap, aba iba ang nakita namin! nakita namin si Ate Tam :) OrgMate namin from AA (artistang artlets ha! not alcoholics anonymous, pero pwede na rin! LOL) so, yun, kwentuhan galore kami. After 30minutes or so na kwentuhan, we said our goodbyes, at tuloy ang paghahanap ng maganda YET mura na mananahi ng wedding gowns.
After the mananahi hunt, move on na kami sa souvenirs and other paraphernalia like japanese lantern, parasols, japanese fan, cherry blossoms look-alike, navy blue swatches of different fabrics.
Ok naman, nakakita kami ng souvenir maker na gumagawa talaga nun gustong give-aways ng bride and groom. They want wind chimes kasi. So that's a check on our list! Next stop, nakabili na kami ng parasol! We also saw japanese lanterns, hindi na kami nag effort bumili kasi umuulan, masisira lang yun. Japanese Fan na lang! And we found it! Nakahingi din kami ng swatches ng navy blue fabrics. Too bad, wala kami nakitang cherry blossom look-a-like.
Almost done! Last stop before we took our lunch was the invitation makers sa Binondo area. The conversation was great, we had a lot of options and ideas for the invitations din. DONE!
We walked towards Binondo and found ourselves in front on Eng-Bee-Tin Restuarant. Since we were awfully tired, we decided to look no further at dun na kami kumain. Cute thing was, part of the restaurant's revenue will go to the fire fighter's volunteer fund. The food was great. Sarap nung rice! hehehe
After the hearty lunch we had and a little phone call to Millet, we then headed to Luneta Park to check out the Japanese Garden there. Kasi nga diba, Japanese Inspired theme ang wedding. But to our dismay, ANG PANGET ng Japanese Garden sa Luneta Park. No offense, pero napabayaan na talaga yun lugar, sayang! So kahit na nasayang ang pagod namin sa pagpunta dun, Chickie and I went to Megamall to check the wedding expo at the Megatrade Hall. Super traffic! And since I haven't slept yet, went to Divisoria straight from wokr the night before, I slept the entire FX ride, for one and a half hours long! Ganun katagal ang traffic, kasi that ride was supposed to be about 30mins or so lang without traffic.
At the wedding expo, the usual, we roamed around, took flyers, chat a little with the suppliers. And that's it. we then call it day!
Was so tired, that on my way home, I was literally dragging my feet to walk towards home. Nakatulog nga ako in a fetus position sa upuan namin sa bahay.
Hay! Ka-Apuy!
